Albright Knot

How tie an Albright knot!

When you want to tie a light monofilament line directly to a very heavy monofilament leader, this is the knot to master. the Albright knot has the advantage of being slim and neat.

Albright knot First double back a couple inches of heavy material. Insert the line through the loop which is thus formed. Pull 10 or 12 inches of line through to give yourself ample line to work with. Now you must wrap the line back over itself, and over both strands of the doubled leader. While doing this, you are gripping the line and both leader strands together with the thumb and finger of your left hand, and winding with your right. Make 15 turns, then insert the end of the line back through the loop once more at the point of original entry.

Before turning loose your thumb and finger grip, pull gently on the standing part of the line to remove slack; then pull gently on the short end of the leader to close the loop; then pull gently on the short end of the line to remove more slack.

Finally comes the last stage of tightening. Pull the short end of the line as tight as you possibly can. Then pull the standing part of the line tight.

Clip off the excess line, leaving about an eight-inch end. Clip of excess from the leader loop, again leaving a very slight protrusion.
