If you want consistent action and desire a great tasting fish then speckled trout can’t be beat. Not only are they typically easy to locate but can be caught using both live bait and artificial. My favorite way to target the ferocious trout is early just before sun up; I like to go to my favorite flat and throw top water plugs. I prefer the Zara Spook.
I never get tired of watching trout blow up on artificial bait. Trout are also great for children; if you really want to get the family involved in fishing there is no better species to start them with. We went out the other morning and caught at least 30 trout using both artificial and live shrimp. A good all around live bait rig includes a popping cork, 2.5 feet of 30lb test leader and a 2/0 Owner hook. Just toss the shrimp out and slowly pop the cork back to the boat, don’t be surprised if you come up with a nice redfish or snook. Until next time tight lines!
