All are on the chew right now in the Tampa Bay. The snapper bite has been extremely good. Find a little structure with swift current and most likely you will run into these hard hitting fish. I have ventured out to the South Skyway Pier the last couple days and have limited out easily every time, usually catching between 20 to 30 fish just keeping the larger ones. I also visited the Gandy but things seem to be a little slower over in that area. Get you snapper rod out and get to fishing!

Fishing has been great! The water temps lowered to the right degree and the bite turned on. We caught 7 grouper, all in the range of 18 to 25″. Large baits such as blue runners, mackerel, ladyfish and grunts have been the go to baits for the big boys. Pinfish will help get more action but the majority will probably be short. The kings have been around, I elected not to fish for them this fall because of the crowds but I plan to get in the action come spring. Here are a few pics from 11/14/2007.

To make a long story short I caught a record number of squirel fish and nothing else. I hope everyone else did better

I am patiently waiting for spring, I miss those tasty hard hitting little snapper. I also miss the black tip fishing, winter is a nice change because of the heat but man it sucks not being able to target all the species I would like. Although there are the power plants, they do hold some of these species but they are normally quite smaller than the ones we catch out in the bay. I will stop griping now and get to fishing.

Free line your shrimp, depending on the tide and wind you may want to use a light weight to get the bait to the bottom. I will soon be posting pictures for everyone to see. Until next time, tight lines.

Last weekend we headed down to Apollo beach me and my girlfreind and fished for a couple of hours. The snook are swarming everywhere down there. Just finding that dock with the best light is key. I was using a white artificial shad with a 1/4 ounce jig head. Stephanie freelined shrimp into the lights and landed 2 snook, I caught a total of 4 snook. In all 6 snook, in 2 hours so it was a good night.

Has anyone else got any snook reports?

The fishing has been decent if you can dodge the cold front winds. The water temperature is now reaching that magic number of 72 degrees. The skyway area is holding and abundant amount of trout, whiting, grouper, small sharks, a few mackerel and the occasional king fish. Me and my girlfreind and a few buddies went out last weekend and caught a few mackerel, Stephanie caught 2 black tips all by herself, good job!

While stephanie was catching these blacktips, a guy stops to see the action and we get to talking and he is telling me that black tips get up to 300lbs, so I tell him in a nice way that he is crazy. If I am not mistaken the record is like 206. Can someone confirm this? anyway we had a great fishing trip. Is anyone else in the local area doing any good? I would be happy to hear your comments.
