I would like to know everything about chum that people are afraid to ask.
What makes good chum? How do you present it? do you use a bag or toss the stuff in? Does it work for you? Is it only good for sharks?
Just wondering.

| Kinda depends on what your chumming for. I mix up a batch using Jack Mackerel, Oat Meal or Chicken mash, sand and menhaden oil or milk and a little water for bringing the bait in. I have gotten buckets of blood from the slaughter house for shark. The chum blocks they sell at the bait shops works well for snapper sometime. Crushed barnacles or oriental green muscles works well for sheeps head. I use a bait bat in the boat to toss out a handful or so of greenbacks for Trout or macks. On the pier we cut up a bunch of greenbacks and chum in the macks or bone heads. Toss a hand full out every so often, brings them in close. We have used a chum slick out deep when Tuna fishing. We will usually take a cooler full of threads or greenbacks for that. That's about all I use it for. Others may have some ideas. |
