Hi my husband and I have been fishing a lot at the N pier lately. The other day he caught 2 groupers. I've been fishing since I was a kid but I have never in my life eaten fish, until that day. That was the greatest thing I have ever eaten. So now I want to catch me a grouper. I would appreciate any and all advice. He bought me a really nice rod n reel for my birthday (penn senator special 112h 3/0) so I armed and ready. PLEASE teach me evrything you know.

Thanks,
Terri

Welcome Terri,
Sounds to me like your husband has got a handle on Grouper fishing with a limit of Gags. I mostly free line live pins or other large baits way out over the rocks. Some people like to bury a bait on the bottom. Both methods work at times. Start by locating the rock piles on both the NSP and the SSP. Then start working these areas. Don't sit all day in one spot if you are not catching fish, move around. What type/size line do you have on your new reel? I prefer a braid line, much less drag in the water when free lining and more distance when casting. Also I prefer the SSP due to the size/length of the pier. I have caught keepers off of both, many more from the SSP though. Right now with the Mack run starting up the piers on the weekends are a mad house and moving around is difficult at best. Good luck, hope to see you both on the pier some day.
Jack

Thank you so much for replying. I will move around. That is something we have not been doing. My new reel has 40lb mono w 50lb flurocarbon leeder. It's only a 3/0 so Thats what I was told to use on it. I'm not a big girl so I was told this size rod n reel would be perfect for me to handle. My other pole has 50lb spider line.
We have only gone to SSP once. We have been going to NP more often.
Yea the hubby right now is the grouper king where I am the mackerel queen. But now I have grouper fever after tasting it for the very first time in my life! Forget the macks I WANT GROUPER Very Happy

Thanks again for replying. Maybe we'll meet ya one day

Terri
