Hi, I live close to Gulf Shores Alabama; used to fish the GS pier regularly, but Ivan destroyed it; have been fishing the jetty and surf mostly since then. I usually fish each Sunday, and take my 3 kids; good to find this forum, I have been looking for a pier forum; has this one been up long?
Also, since learning to fish the jetties, I have "discovered" mangrove snapper...though they are almost always undersized (less than the legal 12 minimum). They have become my favorite fish (they were rare to non-existent from the pier). I noticed that on the Skyway forum there is a lot of discussion on snapper...are these mangroves or another species? Sounds like Skyway is a great place to fish...
Thanks,
Kevin |

| Hello Cotton and welcome to the forum, the forum has only been up a couple months. We growing pretty rapidly, it is good to have you! The Skyway is full of snapper, mangrove snapper or grey snapper some people call them. If you have any questions feel free to ask or comment, there are alot of helpful people that are willing to share great tips. |

Thanks for turning me on to this site Cotton.
looks like we are amongst 'brothers' (and sistas
I've heard a LOT of great things about the Skyway Piers and hope to fish them someday.
Like Cotton, I'm from Alabama where hurricane Ivan seriously changed our fishing two years ago this week
Since that horrific event took out most of the regions Gulf piers and the fishing bridge in Pensacola, I've been fishing Alabama Point jetties again (in cooler weather) and fortunately the wooden pier at Dauphin Island which also miraculously survived Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
Plus I've done a good amount of boat fishing (fergive me for that with new friends I've met in our local inshore fishing club (the ACFA).
Anyway, just wanted to say howdy and offer my 34+ years of pierfishing experience to the members here also. _________________ WOOO HOOO! The Gulf State Park Pier is OPEN!

Hello, and welcome! It is really unfortunate about the piers up there, hopefully they will get them back up for you guys soon. I know if I couldn't fish the skyway piers I would go insane. No need to apologize about the boat fishing...We do it all on here. I am actually buying a really nice flats boat next year. Feel free to ask questions and assist other mbr with answers, all anglers are welcome, novice, intermediate and so on. So if you have fishing knowledge please share it |
