I am visiting the St. Pete Beach area the end of April and need advice on surf tactics. I am an experienced Michigan angler, but a surf novice. My starting tactic was to chuck a live shrimp out, and see what happens. Any advice or tips on rigs, bait, or what I might catch would be very helpful. Also, I am staying at The Grand Plaza Beach Resort. Is this a good area, and will they let me fish right in front of the hotel? Thanks for any tips guys!

I don't know what is biting down there perhaps someone that knows the area will chime in. But the basic everything that swims rig is this. Get a double bottom rig with some 1/0 owner, gamakatsu, or mustad J hooks hooks. Get some FRESH shrimp from a fish market or catch them in a net peel them and cut them i to pieces about the size of your pinky nail.

Hello and welcome! You can try using a sliding ledger rig with live shrimp. In April you will have the opportunity to catch a variety of fish. Anything from pompano, snook, whiting and tarpon. You may also want to have a large spinning rod and reel handy with a free lined finger mullet. This will give you the opportunity for larger game. I am not sure about the hotel question. I will let someone else chime in there.
