FYI
Anybody living or staying on the Florida gulf coast who likes to fish had best get at it now and enjoy it while you can. I fully expect the coast to be contaminated from the panhandle to the keys by the end of May. June will see the keys' reefs wiped out and by the end of the summer it'll be past Jacksonville and on its' way up the atlantic coast. I know I sound like Chicken Little and I sure hope I'm wrong, but things don't look good right now. I'm 64 and i expect to be dead before the Gulf recovers(if it ever does).
How about it forum members; lets hear some other opinions.
as always

| It's not looking good! Funny that they have been wanting to open the waters within 200 miles out so they can drill. Now look at what they have done. All we can do is hope for the best and watch. |

| I have always been opposed to any drilling any where near our Coast. Now we will have to wait and see. If it get's into the Gulf Stream, you are probably right there will be no stopping it. I think we should all pray that this does not happen. Never count out the power of prayer and hope. God bless those poor folks along the Louisiana and Mississippi coast, they are in for some rough times not to mention all the wildlife this will affect. You would think that with all this modern technology, that they would have had a plan to shut these things down quick. As it stands, it could still be many day's before they cap it. 5000 barrels a day, some say much more is draining onto the Gulf. |

You're right Fillet, with all this modern technology we should have in place ways to deal with such potential disasters. Problem is there's no payoff till said disaster occurs so industry doesn't bother-ain't no money in a what if. Why isn't the federal gov't set up to deal with this? For years we've had Rush Limbaugh & his minions chanting less gov't- having the troops and equipment on hand to deal with this would require more gov't not less. Why don't the feds require the drillers to have equipment in place for such emergencies? Because small minded politicians financed by big business have been working to repeal gov't regulations that would protect us and our environment, claiming that the regs interfere with business productivity. Reckon I've stepped on enough toes for one day but if yours are among the ones hurting please feel free to hollar back.
bye for now
