|
|
I've decided to part with my shark rig. (located in new port richey)
Daiwa Sealine 900h = $100
I took this reel off the hands of a fellow angler who bought it brand new, spooled it, and didn't give it a chance to kill any fish. I tried my luck with it for a shark season and never got the big shark I was looking for. Please buy this reel and give it the chance it deserves!!!
(The clicker sideplate has a blemish from where a sticker was left on for too long by the previous owner. It could probably be taken off with some elbow grease, i just never bothered. I could send a pic if interested. It was rinsed after every use (including the line) with the drag locked and was stored with the drag loosened.)
Seeker EX6460XXH 50-(80)-130 = $150
i hate to see this rod go...
This is one beefy rod that fishes 80# great and its really meant for tuna. it really deserves a 12/0 over my 9/0. You could dead lift a 50lb weight with it. It was wrapped by a builder in Largo. It measures about 6'3" from gimball to tip top. It has Fuji SiC Trolling guides, Aftco reel seat (blue), aftco gimball (silver), Hypalon upper grip, and an EVA lower grip. This rod has seen minimal action (1 6ft blacktip that straightened the hook and one unknown monster that i never got to see). No wire leader or braid ever ran through these guides.
a bit of info on the blank: The Seeker Blue Extreme series of blanks are no longer made. The blank itself is blue because of the finish applied to it. I believe the combination of this finish and the s-glass created a rod with more lifting power than previously made Seekers. The line was discontinued because the finish was too complicated to mix with each batch and Seeker did not want to create inconsistent rods. IF you manage to break this rod, chances are that seeker will not be able to replace it with the exact same blank. Not necesarilly a bad thing, maybe they'll give you a super seeker! I think you should deserve one if you manage to break this rod!
NOTE: at only 6'3" this is NOT the best shark rod for the PIERS and is much better suited for a boat. it would make a great pier goliath rod but again, at only 6'3 you don't have much rod length to help you clear your line from rubbing on the bottom of the pier.
(One or 2 of the guides have a couple scratches in the gunsmoke finish. The lower EVA grip is a little roughed up at the bottom edges from rod holders. The reel seat has some scratches in the finish from the clamp. Washed after every trip and polished with Pledge every few months.)

| i know! its a disease! before i started building rods, my rod supplier and consultant asked if i'm sure i wanted to start building my own because crack is an easier habit to kick! now im always working on at least 2 rods at a time. |

Pucky, you don't have it bad yet.
Wait until you order enough stuff from your tackle dealer, that he'll drive 3 hours to personally deliver the order to you.

....lol I was also likewise warned, but have still been looking around the house at all my appliances to see what I could cannibalize to turn into a rod turner...lol
Seriously, I have never made or wrapped anything yet, but with 2 daugfhters at 2.5 and 10 months, I REALLY want to make them their first decent sticks ( yes, in pink) that is after they destroy their zebco's.
I have a few tals that turn out some nicer rods, I just need to make the time to hang in their garages a lil more |

its alot of fun and its somethign to do during the week after work. i haven't bought a rod wrapper yet. you really don't need one. i only want one because im sick of wrapping size A thread by hand.... Imagine 144 turns per inch!
spinning rods aren't time consuming enough to require a wrapper though. there's a ton of info online to get yourself started but some guidance from someone with experience is a must at some point.
i learned by tearing down my spinning rods and rewrapping the guides. the only piece of equipment you absolutely need is a rod dryer. |

i could but honestly, you're better off seeking someone else. i've only been wrapping for about 6 months and i've got much to learn and practice before i feel comfortable offering my skills to others.
i do have an extra grouper rod that i havent even begun yet. i bought it just for the sake of wrapping it and have no intention of keeping it. The blank is a Key Largo 40# snapper rod (my first skyway grouper rod was a Key Largo) and it has Fuji turbo guides (BLRLG), Fuji reel seat with EVA foam grips, and a PacBay tip. This rod (built) retails for $129. I paid $103 shipped for it unassembled. if you're looking for a grouper rod, we could work something out for this.
if you want to talk more about custom rods, start a thread in the general forum and i'll try my best to answer your questiosn. |
