Hi Insteel, I hope you dont mind me moving your topic to this section of the forum. Its new. You can talk about everything dealing with fishing gear here. How big are the sharks your targeting? I've caught a small 42 inch bonnet head shark using 20 lbs braided with 20 lbs flouro before. I have 40 lbs mono on my grouper pole and when I snag a rock, I have the hardest time trying to break the line. I have no experience fishing for big shark but Pierfish will be able to help you out. Very Happy

Hurry up with the information, I've only got 18 more days, haha

How do you commonly fish for Sharks at the Pier. Does bottom fishing work or is there to much structure / snags so that you float the bait with
the tide?

Chris, I normally float the bait out with a balloon. You want to get it past the shadow line. Insteel, I use 60lb test for black tips and 200lb test Dacron for larger sharks such as bulls etc... The reel ranges from a 6/0 to a 12/0.

Hi Pierfish,

Is the shadowline the end of reef structure under water? I assume you're dependent on wind or tide to get out the ballon rig?

It's not much longer and I hope you can show me personally.
